Friends,

Tomorrow (Thursday) I will be fasting as part of World Fast Against Malaria Day, a global event to raise awareness of the gravity of this highly preventable disease, particularly severe in sub-Saharan Africa. I will also be aiming to raise a meager $100, of which 100% will be donated to buy and put into place 20 long-lasting, insecticidal mosquito nets.

Statistically, every 20 nets equates to saving one life. Sadly, most malaria deaths (70%) are children under 5, many of the rest are pregnant women.


How can you help?

1. Learn about malaria and what is being done to combat it.

2. I need twenty people to donate $5 between today and the end of the day tomorrow; just $5. I especially encourage those of you with children under 5 to consider making this contribution in recognition of the staggering statistics. Yet, everyone can be part of the solution.

3. Don’t taunt me by bringing in a lunch with wonderfully wafting aromas (at least not on 24). No microwave popcorn, either… have mercy!


So, here’s the equation: $100 = 1 person’s life. Pretty simple. So is $5.
