Why US$ 5 per net?

There are several brands of long-lasting insecticidal net (LLIN) as well as nets of different sizes. Both influence the cost of the net. Smaller nets which protect a single child cost around US$ 4, whereas larger, family-sized, nets typically cost between US$ 4-5, depending on the brand.

The quoted US$ 5 per LLIN is therefore an average figure. We usually pay less than this.

We achieve very good prices. In fact, we receive the lowest price in the world for nets. This is in part because we buy in large quantities and pay immediately and also because we have the support of the net manufacturers. This allows us to maximise the number of nets bought for funds raised.

As part of our committment to being completely transparent with funds raised we report here the actual average price we have paid for LLINs:

Cost of nets purchased to date* US$ 5,566,607 = Average LLIN cost US$ 4.336
Number of LLINs purchased 1,283,703

The majority of the remaining funds (US$ 5,885,940 - US$ 5,566,607 = US$ 319,333)* are currently being assigned to distributions.

These numbers are updated automatically.

As always, 100% of all funds raised are used to purchase LLINs. Not a penny or a cent goes on anything else.
